  1. I think that Henry was justified in divorcing Mary because he really needed a son as an heir. Perhaps he could have been nicer about the way he dealt with Anne Boleyn.

  2. Gabe-I think Henry's method of getting an heir was slightly ridiculous and occupied a lot of time that could have been spent ruling the kingdom.

  3. Despite what the readings in class tell, I don't believe that Henry was a nice ruler the majority of his life. According to books such as The Other Boleyn Sister, they portrayed Henry VIII as a monster, a very volatile tyrant.

  5. Henry was lucky enough to have a valid excuse,(not being able to have a healthy son.) when divorcing Catherine. I think in truth he wanted to divorce her because he didn't like her. I think that at this time in his life he was very bitter and selfish, he only thought of himself. This would explain the six wives that he had.

  6. I think he was a horrible person in the ways he would execute all his wives and he spent all his riches when he inherited them and im glad it took so long for him to have a son i think he deserves not to -Connor

  8. Henry started off as a jolly person, full of joy and pep. But gradually, the more wives he had and the longer he lived, the worst his disposition became. In fact, in the end he became quite a disgusting person, his former glory left in the dust. He should have been thankful to have Catherine of Aragon as a wife in the first place, with her many connections and powerful heritage. When he had his marriage to her annulled, it all began to go downhill for him. He lost Spain's support, and his true nature was coming out.

  9. I think that Henry VIII, was not a very effictive leader (or husband) because he blamed everything on others, spent lots of money on unessesary things, and involved himself in wars that were none of his business. Also he didnt follow machiavellon concepts as well as he should have.

I think Henry VIII married 6 different wives, was to be able to have a male heir for the throne. He beheaded those who did not produce a son, which on my opinion is really ridiculous. I also think he was cruel.

  11. I think he was a scumbag. First he convinced the church to let him marry Catherine of Aragon, then he stopped loving her and tried to say that he made a mistake just so he could be with Anne Boleyn. After that, he had her killed To then marry Jane Seymour. All the while, he was just wasting the government's money. He wasn't very nice

I think that Henry VII was an ever unsatisfied man. His decision to divorce his first wife was fair, since he had no son, and many miscarrieges. Yet even after getting a fine son as a successor, he remarried and remarried.

  14. Kait-I think that Henry VIII's way of marrying a person then divorcing the one he married was a bit silly due to the fact that he hurt many women in the prosses.

  15. i think that henry is an unreasonable person because he was so violent towards his wifes that wasnt giving him a son. he spent a lot of the money on nothing and then blamed it on other people he should have taken reasonability for his actions.

  16. Herny started off as a pleasnt person, he was full of joy and just wanted to have a son which Catherine of Aragon and Anne Boleyn couldnt give to him. He had a lot of power and control, he was a respected person until he didnt get his way in the court to divorce Catherine of Aragon.

I think that Henry tended to react too strongly to things, and allowed his imagination to run away with him and blow things out of proportion. For example, he thought that Wolsey wasn't doing as much as he could, and he was committing treason, so Henry dismissed him. And when the Pope refused to grant him an annulment, he founded his own religion to get things how he wanted them. He then distributed his versions of bibles and prayer books. It seems as though he had a strong desire to prove himself right.

I think that he wasa somewhat good leader at time, even though he spent a very large amount of money. The way he treated his wives was horrible. He was nice at first, but in the end they either ended up in jail, dead, or divorced. The fact that he wanted a son was no excuse for murder and imprisonment just because the wife would not bear a son.
Basically, he was a tyrannical ruler, with occasional streaks of good leadership.

  19. I think that Henry VII was a badly educated ruler. He became king with a kingdom already set up and running well for him. He laid back and watched it run while he wasn't paying attention to his spending. I think that he could have been a little more cautious about the money in the treasury and how he spent it. He wasted the entire treasury on his own fancies and a meaningless war. He also could have had a little more of a heart when it came to all of his wives. Henry had 6 wives and he divorced or killed all of them in search of an heir. Also Mr. Castle, did you mean Catherine of Aragon? - Enya

I think it was fitting that he died kind of uncomfortably because he had his most trusted advisor fired and took all his property, and he executed his wives because they didn't give him a son. He caused a lot of discomfort, so he died uncomfortable.

  21. Maddie Dunn,

Henry the eighth is a stubborn, selfish, yet intelligent man. He inherited his kingdom from his father Henry VII. In order sustain power within his family; he must breed a healthy son. His first wife, Catherine of Aragon was his dead brothers widow. Catherine of Aragon was Isabel and Ferdinand’s daughter. When his brother married Catherine, he created good ties between Spain and England. When his brother died the English feared this tie would die. Therefore, Henry VIII married her. Even though it was against canon law. When Catherine failed to produce a healthy son, he asked for an annulment. It was not gained and he split form the Catholic Church. Henry continued this pattern until he produced a healthy son, and even then he did not stop. Gaining a healthy son was ness Cary, however he went too far.

Its ridiculous to kill someone for being unable to have a boy right when you want one. This guy obviously has no heart. Not only is he a murderer but he acted of sneaky infidelitys as well. While all of this nonsense was happening he ALSO was wasting the riches of the government on wars that he hadno business in. Tsk tsk.

I think henry VII is a ladies man and but he is no hearted and he only wanted girls for kids and to get more money

  26. I think that he was a bad king in general. He wasted the treasurys money and partys and wars. Also he did not make and progress with politics. He spent his whole life trying to have a son with different woman and just fiddled around with the rules with the church.

  27. I believe that Henry VIII was a very conceited man who tended to think of nothing but him and his needs. This is very prominant in his relationships with his multiple wives. He also seemed to be miserable especially in his old age.

  28. I don't think Henry was a very nice person. Although he did need a son, it wasn't cool to get a divorce just because of that. He wasn't particularly respectful and idn't really care about people feelings.

  29. i think henry was a terrible leader.it was very bad of him to murder his wife for not having a son.he wasted money on parties and wars that he didn't need to be in. he was a very bad and terrible person.

  30. Why kill for a son? A woman heir would had of been just fine. Going from wife to wife just for it to end in death.

  31. I think that Henry was a royal jerk. I mean really! He spends half his life just seperating england from the church, then he gets married to this girl which he bugs the pope to allow FOR LIKE EVER! Then he falls in love with some other girl, Anne Boleyn. So he divorces his first wife and marrys Anne. Then he thinks she's with some other guy and he just kills her. Off with her head and all that! So he marrys ANOTHER girl and finally has a son who can be kind after him. So after Him marrying like three other girls, he gets HUGE! Like massivly obese. Then he just gets angry and depressed and becomes a tyrant. I mean geez, what a jerk!

My overall opinion of Henry is that he is not a very good ruler or person. He threw ridiculous parties and spent money on worthless things. Even though it was very important for having a boy, it's not cool to kill you're wife because she can't produce one. I don't like him very much because he was rutheless and stupid in his ways.

King Henry the Eighth, like many rulers of his time, went to desperate measures to keep himself and his family in power. Although what Henry did (murdering his wives and such) was certainly unethical, he had simply chosen his power over being a good person. (Similar to Macbeth.) This is just a choice. Unfortunately, this became a disasterous situation for Henry's many wives.

  34. Basically Henry VIII was an overgrown fratboy. He spent all his dad's money on parties, got pissed when his wives didn't give him sons, and ended up obese to the point that he couldn't move. He died painfully, which personally I think he deserved.

I believe Henry was a very smart man, even if his decisions were harsh. The way he dealt with the church may have been rational but it was the right thing to do. He killed Anne Boleyn and got away from Catherine, but he needed a son to take over his reign. Over all Henry was a very intelligent man and he got things done, even if hee seemed rash in his decisions.
